Sync

RigFX synchronises its pipeline to an external sync source so that every output frame corresponds to exactly one input frame. The unit can lock to a genlock reference signal, and/or to an SMPTE LTC timecode signal which also labels each frame with a timestamp.

Warning

If you plug both Ref and Timecode inputs, make sure both signals come from the same source. Mismatched sources will drift over time and break frame-accurate playback.

Ref (genlock)

BNC input, no loop-through.

Signal type Notes
Black Burst (composite sync, NTSC / PAL) The classic broadcast reference
Tri-Level Modern HD / UHD reference

Supported framerates:

23.98 24 25 29.97 30 50 59.94 60

The unit auto-detects the format. Lock state is reported on the web UI (Sync) and on the Ref LED on the front panel — see LED indicators.

Timecode

The system detects SMPTE-12M LTC timecode on a BNC input.

Supported framerates:

24 25(50) 29.97 (DF drop-frame or NDF non-drop-frame) 30(60)

If no timecode is provided, the device starts its own internal timecode counter at power-on.

You can also use an external timecode source to jam-sync the device and then disconnect the cable — as long as the genlock is plugged in, the device will remain in sync. Without genlock, the internal timecode may drift over time.

When you don't have a genlock generator

Set the sync mode to Internal on Sync. The pipeline still runs deterministically at your chosen framerate.
